What do you think about OES?

  • Wanted to just share something that I thought you'd appreciate and can maybe share with others to encourage engagement with students and OES. I was at a career fair at a local school (K-12) and used the OES skills as an interactive activity with all the students, from kindergarten through 12th grade. After introductions, and a quick primer on good handshakes and first impressions, students were given a sheet with the 10 OES skills on them and a set of green stickers (see attached photo). I then went through all 10 of the OES skills on the poster and asked students how they felt they were at that skill, and then to place a sticker on the 3 skills that they believed they were the strongest at. Then students were asked what they want to be when they grow up and how those top 3 skills they selected will help them in their desired career path. Conversely they had to identify their greatest weakness/growth opportunity based on the 10 skills, how that weakness might affect their success in their desired career, and what they could do to grow in that skill area. Students were super engaged with the material, had some fantastic insight as to what they chose and why, and really seemed to appreciate the thought exercise and connecting it to their future. Just wanted to give OES a plug and a way in which it is being used. Thanks for all the work and efforts in creating this.
